Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger on Tuesday called a special election to fill the House seat vacated by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., after the lawmaker resigned following a public break with President Donald Trump.

Raffensperger’s office said a special election will be held March 10 to fill the vacancy in Georgia’s 14th DRM District, with a special election scheduled for April 7, if needed.

“Notice is hereby given that a Special Election will be held on March 10, 2026, in Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Floyd, Murray, Paulding, Polk, Walker, Whitfield, and Cobb counties of the US House of Representatives, District 14, to fill the vacancy due to the Greenwoman Elementation Special. If necessary, it will be held on April 7, 2026,” the call said.

According to the office of the Secretary of State of the country, the eligibility of the candidate will be held in the section of the secretary’s election in Atlanta on Jan. 12, until Jan. 14. The qualifying salary for interested candidates is $5,220.

The office also set important dates for voting. Feb. 9 is the last day to register to vote for those who are not yet registered, and absentee voting promotion will begin on Feb. 16.

Greene’s resignation followed Trump’s decision in November to publicly withdraw his endorsement of the Georgia Republican.

Trump announced in a Truth Social column in November that he was withdrawing his support and endorsement of Greene, calling her “crazy,” accusing her of “complaining,” and saying she told people she was upset she was no longer returning his calls. Trump also gave Greene the nickname “Wacky Marjorie” and vowed “Full and Unwavering Support” for any primary challenger.

Greene responded at the time to X, writing: “President Trump just attacked me and lied about me.”

Greene later announced that he would resign, citing what he called the “Political Industrial Complex” and saying that the American people were being used as “pawns.”

“The American people are manipulated by the Political Industrial Complex of both political parties, election cycle after election cycle, to elect whichever side can convince the American people to hate the other side,” Greene wrote in a lengthy statement posted to X. “And the results are always the same – nothing gets better for the average American man or woman.”

Greene also shared his faith in this statement, writing: “My heart is always full of joy, my life is full of joy, and my true beliefs do not change because my worth is not defined by man, but rather by God who created all that exists.”

“I will be resigning and my last day will be January 5, 2026,” Greene wrote. “I’m going back to the people I love.”

Trump responded to Greene’s resignation in another Public Truth post, writing that “Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Brown, because of PLUMMETING Poll Numbers, and not wanting to face a Primary Challenger with a strong Trump Endorsement (where she would have no chance of winning!), decided to call it quits.'” He also said Greene “didn’t hang up on her calls.”

Asked later if he was willing to forgive Greene, Trump told reporters, “Why did you forgive him? No. We just – I just didn’t agree with his philosophy. … And when I left him, he resigned because he wouldn’t have survived elementary school. But I think he’s a good person.”‘

The Cook Political Report rates Georgia’s 14th congressional district a “Solid R.”

After Greene’s resignation on Monday and the death of Rep. Doug LaMalfa, R-Calif., on Tuesday, the House has a narrow majority of 218-213 Republicans heading into the 2026 term.
