Do you need a new camera?
Probably not. Probably what you need to do is spend more time with the one you have, but if buying a new camera makes you feel like you’re better at photography, far be it from me to stop you. Hitting close to home? I can hear you. I mean I want a new camera, the Sony A7C R is an amazing camera, the autofocus is a light camera ahead of my A7R II, the sensor is great, and the distance is high and easy. What is dislike? But it won’t immediately make me take better photos.
To make better pictures you have to spend time on it. It takes practice. Shooting every day, even if you only have 10 minutes, go around the neighborhood and play with different songs, try to shoot in ways you don’t usually do. You experiment with different light at different times of the day. Just go out and shoot more. Most of them will be rubbish, but you will be learning.

GoPro did not release a new model of its Hero Action camera this year. Last year’s Hero 13 is still behind, but it’s on sale on Black Friday anyway. The GoPro Hero 13 was the first major change to the GoPro action camera in many years. The company has added a dynamic lens system, as well as Macro, Ultra wide, and anamorphic lenses, and a set of neutral baby filters. The new dynamic lens system opens up easy shooting possibilities with other action cameras. For some reason, this camera often gets attention. It’s just fun to shoot with.
I think the cheap part of the lens for the hero 13 and hero 13 black is the attached lens and it changes the hero 13’s settings accordingly. This is great for those who don’t want to fine-tune their camera settings every time they change lenses or pop into the neutral range. I’ve been using all three lenses for over a year now and they’re all great, but the Ultra wide is my favorite. I mostly use my GoPro to shoot from the handlebars of my bike, so, the wider the shot, the better and more immersive, hence my love for the Ultra wide. The wider Hero Black Ultra Edition is also on sale.
Everything that made Gopro a household name here as well, with industry leading hypermersmooth, all kinds of useful shooting modes, and support for GOPPro’s QuiK app. Also note that if you buy through Goppo.com, the company includes a year’s worth of GoPpo Premium, the company’s subscription service, if GOPRO has a shortcoming, it’s battery life. It’s okay, but not great. I suggest grabbing an extra battery.
So, given that there was no hero 14 this year, what future proof is hero 13? I can say the next great testimony. I’ll admit, the recently announced DJI Action 6, with dynamic apertire, is very interesting, but it’s still an automatic decoration rather than giving you a complete full mode. I also have a small leery of DJI products, given the ban starting December 23, 2025. The Insta360 ACE Pro 2 below is on sale, and especially with new accessories that transform it into a point-like point. point-and-shop. But in the end, when I go out the door to ride, or paddle, or, right now, some snow, the action camera I reach for is always the black Gopro Hero 13.

The GOPPro max 2 is the best 360 camera you can buy and is currently $100 off. Dual 14 MM (35 mm equivalent) lens max 2 records each on a 1 / 2.3-inch chip, the largest available in a 360 camera. This gives what GoPro calls “True 8K” Video, where the company says that the real area recorded by the 8k sensor, while other 360 cameras have 6k sensors or 70 sensors as real images. The short story is that Max 2’s video is sharp and clear. Couple this with 10-bit color support for log files and you have footage that the competition can’t match.

Fujifilm’s Instax Mini 99 is the best Instax camera for those who love manual control and creative results. The mini 99 offers some controls for focus and exposure, as well as some cool color effects, like the ability to simulate light leaks like those thrift store cameras gathering dust on your shelf. There are two dials on the mini 99. One acts as an exposure compensation dial, which allows you to change the exposure value (EV) between two stops, bright and dark. I found the L (easy) and L + useful when shooting in snow, which has a tendency to create small sensors like this. It’s also good for scenes that shoot back strongly, although those are still not Instax’s strong suit. The mini 99 has a 60-mm plastic lens. It works equally well in the same field of view as a 35-mm lens in the 35-MM format (or if you prefer, somewhere between 1x and 2x on your iPhone). The shutter is fixed at F/12.7, which means you’ll be relying on exposure in all but bright, sunny, outdoor shots. That said, unlike a few other Instax models, with the mini 99 you can turn off the flash for those well-lit photos, and that means fewer photos in the shower.
