Democratic Maine Gov. Janet Mills, who is seeking to unseat Republican Sen. Susan Collins, confirmed that she is in good health after a CNN reporter on Monday asked if she could campaign at her age.

“When we talk about the election, one concern, the other concern I hear about you is your age,” CNN’s Manu Raju told Mills, 78.

“No! Really? Damn! I thought that wasn’t going to happen,” Mills replied sarcastically.

“Do you think the memory in your party is about Joe Biden, is that going to be big for you, too?” Raju asked.

“Good Lord! Oh, I’m not Joe Biden, for God’s sake. I’m healthy. People see me at work every day. They know I can deliver. And I’ve given birth,” she said.

Throughout the 2024 presidential race, speculation about Biden’s declining mental health grew overtime, eventually leading to greater pressure for the presidential hopeful to drop out of the race.

Viral videos of Biden looking confused and reporting on his fragile state behind the scenes have started a conversation about his declining mental health. After the negative debate against President Donald Trump, the pressure for Biden to leave the race for the White House became so strong that he left a few weeks later, although he initially promised to stay in the fight.

This is not the first time that Mills’ age has been questioned after entering the Senate race. When he was talking to the voters, one of them asked how he would argue against the fact that he is too old.

“How will you and your campaign back down from the argument that you are too old?” asked the voter.
