“Because of this Democrat-LED result, the ATF, like many federal agencies, is working on a reduced mission. And while the Democrats continue to fight the benefits of aliens,” read the letter, first obtained by Fox News Digital.

“That is because, under Federal law, Second Amendment rights cannot be fully exercised without the involvement of the federal government. This is clearly not what the Framers intended, but it is the reality of this country.”

The government shutdown is in its 17th day, with Democrats and Republicans still unable to agree on a way forward on funding.

It has resulted in thousands of government employees being decorated and many other lists of Federal Services have been suspended. Shutdowns have worked for Federal agencies that have endured their outages, determining which employees and services are “essential” and should continue to operate with limited funding or not.

Most of ATF’s non-law enforcement officers were furloughed, and license processing for new and civilian renewals was ordered, according to the industry association.
