Herman Miller has a flash for office chairs

It always is shocking to see the sticker price on the right office chair. It’s just a chair! Why is it so expensive? Then your back starts to ache after years of sitting in that tricky chair, and you start to wonder. Do what I did and invest in a Supportive, Comfortable, and Ergonomic Office Chair. The Aeron is the most reflective office chair in the world, found in offices around the world, and for good reason. This All-Mesh design is perfect for breathability, and you’ll find every adjustment thought to make this seat support your body. (Read more about my experience here.) You’ll be faced with several options when shopping, all of which influence the price, so let’s run through them:

• Outline: This is where you can choose the color of your Aeron frame and base. Graphite is cheap, but you can upgrade to a cast aluminum base, for example.
• Size: The Aeron comes in three sizes: A, B, and C. I recommend using the Herman Miller size guide (Tap? icon on the product page) to buy the right size for your body type. For example, the company recommends people between 5’2″ and 6′ to go with size B.
• Back support: Lumbar support can go a long way in your back end without long hours in the chair. I suggest you go with the adjustable lumbar support or the right adjustable SL stand; The latter is very supportive, referring to the sacral region of the spine.
• Tilt: Upgrade to Ting Limiter! It allows you to limit the joint width between three angles (vertical, intermediate, and full repetition). It can also print the front seat for a more active and appreciated position. If you want the basic TILT option, you’ll need to twist the tension knob to change the effort required to recline the seat.
• Weapons: You have three modes to choose from: static, height-adjustable, and fully adjustable. Combat means that the arms are set in a higher position, while the dynamic adjustment allows you to raise or lower them. Fully adjustable arms allow you to adjust the arms back and forth, and fold them in and out.
• Armpad: Your choice if you are looking for polyurethane foam tablets or leather.
• Caster: This depends on whether or not you have a carpet on your desk.

While the Aeron can be very familiar to many, my personal favorite is the Herman Miller Emponi. It may take a week or two to get used to its flat and narrow seat, but to me, it feels like a palate cleanser after I’m done testing other office chairs. It just feels great, with a great back support system and adjustable seat depth that works surprisingly well for my 6’4″ frame. There are quite a few options to choose from, and the medley is the upholstery.
