How to cancel CyberGhost and get a refund

I came away from my review of CyberGhost with a positive opinion, I feel that it has earned its place in my collection of the best VPNs. However, even professional reviews are reasonable, and there is a chance that CyberGhost will not work for you. If so, here’s how to cancel your subscription.
How to stop renewing your CyberGhost subscription
Canceling your CyberGhost subscription will not end immediately, unless you delete your account or receive a refund (I’ll explain how to do both later). Instead, the way to cancel CyberGhost is to stop your subscription from renewing at the end of each billing period. Once you’ve done that, you can continue using CyberGhost until your current term ends.
The following steps will cancel the automatic renewal if you have CyberGhost through its website. If you purchased it through the app store instead, see the next section.
-
Open your browser and go to cyberghostvpn.com.
-
At the top right of the screen, click the labeled box My account. Enter your username and password if you are not already logged in.
-
Look in the upper right corner of the new screen and click on the CyberGhost logo next to your email address. From the drop-down menu, select Subscriptions.
-
Find the subscription you want to cancel and select it Cancel Subscription.
-
If prompted, click Continue to Cancel.

This will turn off automatic billing of your account. The next time you are billed, your subscription will expire. You can re-register by purchasing another name. If you’re within the refund period – 14 days for monthly subscriptions and 45 days for everyone else – you can now request a refund.
How to cancel CyberGhost if you subscribed to the app store
If you register for an app through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, the store handles the charge; the application provider does not process the money itself. If you bought CyberGhost through an app store and want to cancel, you’ll have to ask the app store in question, not CyberGhost. Here’s how to do it.
If you registered through the Apple App Store, you will need to cancel with your Apple ID. Here are the steps.
-
Open the Settings app on your home screen.
-
At the top of the Settings menu, you’ll see your name. Tap.
-
In your Apple Account menu, tap Subscriptions.
-
Scroll until you find your CyberGhost subscription, and tap on it.
-
Touch the words Cancel Subscriptionthen follow the instructions.
Here’s what you need to do when you register through the Google Play Store. Similar to Apple’s process, you will go through a list of subscriptions on your profile.
-
Open the Google Play Store operating system.
-
Tap the circle in the upper right corner with the first letter of your name.
-
get the Payments and subscriptions menu and tap on it. In the next menu that appears, press Subscriptions.
-
Scroll down until you find your CyberGhost subscription. Tap on it, then click Cancel Subscription.
-
Follow the prompts to complete the cancellation.
How to delete your CyberGhost account
Before you’re ready to delete your CyberGhost account completely, make sure to cancel auto-renewal first by following the steps in the previous section. If you don’t, you may be charged for the subscription you use, and it’s a big hassle to cancel that without an account.
Once you’ve done that, log in to your account cyberghostvpn.com then click your account profile in the top right, just like when you cancel automatic renewal. At the bottom of the window for the username/password and the message about the activation key, you will see the words Delete my account in small letters.

Click on them. On the page that appears, select Delete my account again. Follow any other instructions you’re given to complete your username for good (note that you won’t be able to use it again after that).
How to get a refund from CyberGhost
In order to receive a refund on your CyberGhost subscription, you must be within the window for the program you selected. For the monthly plan, the refund period is 14 days. For all other programs, it is 45 days. Once this period has passed, unfortunately there is no way to get your money back.
If you are within the refund period, you can get your money back by submitting a request through customer support. You can send an email support@cyberghost.rosubmit a ticket through this link or open a live chat by clicking the Live Chat button at the bottom right of any page cyberghostvpn.com. Whichever method you choose, the conversation will go faster if you have your order number on hand — check your inbox if you don’t know it.

If you went to the app store, you’ll need to request a refund from that platform instead. Apple and Google Play handle their own cash transactions, which means they also process refunds.
CyberGhost best practices
After you cancel and/or remove CyberGhost from your life, you still need a VPN; the benefits of blocking your IP address and changing your physical location are not going away. You can check out my best list (linked above) or best VPN roundup, or check out a review of my favorite service, Proton VPN.
Proton VPN is my top choice because of its focus on user freedom and attention to quality in everything it does. If you’re willing to pay a little for more convenience and total reliability, ExpressVPN is perfect for beginners. If you’re a speed demon and want to keep your downloads fast, go with Surfshark.
