HUD said it has evidence Boston used federal aid Furman “Likes to Play,” in violation of the fair housing law and VI, describing the efforts as a “Social Engineering Project.”

The investigation comes after HUD sent a letter to the Mayor’s Office of Housing, warning city officials that they “believe” Boston was improperly using federal grant money.
According to Hud, Boston’s fair housing test promises to “go home” to “black and Latinx” families and charges city departments with collecting racial and ethnic data “to assess their racial work.”
Zoston’s Housing 2025 strategy also states that “at least 65%” of housing opportunities through city channels must go to Bipoc (black, queer, and people of color), according to HUD.
“The goal is clear,” the agency said. “Financial housing assistance is not for all low-income people but instead for ‘bipoc residents in particular.'”
