President Donald Trump has long been determined to be an advocate for American workers.
Since he first ran for President in 2016, he has been drawn by his business acumen to put America first. He expressed support for all citizens who feel neglected by powerful special interests in Washington, and that includes American musicians.
In his first term, President Trungale signed the Modern Music Act, a law that renewed the copyright protection of the Digital ERA and made it possible for musicians to pay for their songs over the Internet. That law has made a real difference in the lives of working musicians who have been taken for a very long time.
A slimmed down actor
For every well-known artist whose name you see, there are thousands of workers – background musicians, band members and studio musicians – who help bring the recording to life. Relying on social work / royalties earned through licensing, radio, broadcasting or other music distribution tools to support their families. It is the rightful payment for the use of the “product” by the “producers” here in America – Music. After all, paying someone to use their property or IP is fundamental to our American values.
Yet those values are challenged every day when you are a recording artist. Despite President Trump’s advances made through the Modern Music Act, today the world’s richest tech companies are taking our music without permission or compensation to build their own AI products. Major radio broadcast our music for free, making billions of dollars in advertising each year, without compensating the performers for using their work. It gets worse – because the US doesn’t pay AM / FM radio players, other countries won’t pay American musicians AM / FM radio plays abroad. It is estimated that $ 300 million is stored abroad now that American artists have found. Because US law does not apply to the rest of the world, American workers are not paid.
The good news is that President Trump can quickly respond to these pressing challenges and level the playing field for all American musicians – Including session vocalists – band members – band members – band members – band members – band members
One meaningful step: Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) and Congressman Darrell Issa (R-CN) have proposed the act of the American Music Fairness Act, a Bill that will require Cordio Cordias to play their songs on AM / FM, opening small and independent rulers at the same time.
The American Music Fairness Act is a good one. It will help musicians pay for their food, save for retirement and provide for their families. Most artists are in that category. I have met many musicians over the years who struggle day in and day out to support their families while pursuing their musical dreams.
In February, a few weeks after President Trump was sworn in for a second term, I joined more than 300 musicians in asking Congress to send the American Mebic Fairness Act to the President’s desk.
Some of my good friends and supporters of this effort – including Jason Aldean, people from Billy Ray Cyrus, sign that Americans deserve to be paid for their work, no matter what level of work they enter.

Since then, Congress has done little to move the law. The House Judiciary Committee needs to seal the bill so it can move another step closer to the oval office. President Trump can meet with American workers and tell Congress to act on the American Music Rights Act.
And while proper AM/FM Airplay compensation is an important step forward, it’s only one part of the bigger picture for active musicians. Longtime performers continue to navigate foreign copyright laws that limit their ability to regain control of their recordings. Many older musicians struggle with basic access to affordable health care. And now, with the rise of AI-generated voices and imitation tracks, creators are facing a new wave of unauthorized use of their art. These issues are not mutually exclusive – they reflect the reality of the people who dedicate their lives to making American culture what it is. Dealing with everything will take time, but revising the outdated radio legislation is a concrete starting point.

All Americans who work deserve to have that work rewarded with good pay. It’s time to turn off the cool radio that has affected music artists for so long.
Let’s pass the American Music Regulatory Act and ensure American musicians are treated well.
