Jets’ Garrett Wilson calls out Stephen A Smith for a fiery tirade about the team

New York Jets star wide receiver Garrett Wilson has lashed out at sports star Stephen A. Smith after Smith made comments about his team.

The misery of the Jets organization made Smith say that he would rather drink poison than play for an NFL team.

“I’m going back to college before I play for the Jets. It’s a brutal football. They’re terrible,” Smith said on ESPN’s “First Take.”

Wilson quickly jumped into the comments of X’s post, calling Smith a “sellout.”

“Damn, you really have to sell above all square to be on ESPN these days. You used to love this show,” Wilson wrote.

JETS MAKE NFL HISTORY DURING A PERIOD OF INCREDIBLES AND RECORD-BREAKING FAILURES

What caused Smith to lash out was the discussion surrounding Oregon Ducks linebacker Dante Moore, who could be the No. 2 pick by the Jets if he decides to leave school after the College Football Playoff.

“I used to eat to make myself angry that I got poisoned when I looked like trash before I played for the Jets,” Smith said. “Anything I could do to survive and be okay in the end but destroy their thoughts that they would ever want me on their list, I would do it.”

Smith also took a shot at Jets head coach Aaron Glenn, who kept his job despite a 3-14 season that led to the worst in NFL history, especially being the first team without an interception all season.

“I am a black person who has always looked for opportunities for black coaches over the years. I have done that,” explained Smith. “It’s a lot better than it was last time. And it pains me to say this, OK? No way in hell Aaron Glenn should still be the head coach of the New York Jets. He was horrible and disrespectful, close to nosed.”

And, no, Smith isn’t done there. He committed himself to the entire organization.

“There are people who have passed away planting jets. They are terrifying. They are terrifying. And they are the place to die if you want to sink, if you want to disintegrate, if you just want to rot. They are terrible.”

The Jets haven’t been to the playoffs in 15 years, the longest drought in professional sports.

But there’s no doubting the dysfunction that comes with a streak. Wilson, 24, knows this after being the team’s first-round pick out of Ohio State in 2022. He’s a standout, along with a few select teammates, but he’s never seen a season above .500, let alone playoff ball.

The Jets are entering yet another season of uncertainty, especially in the quarterback department. Will they go with another young rookie in hopes of becoming their long-awaited quarterback of the future? Or should the Jets head to free agency like they did last season considering the addition of Justin Fields didn’t work out.
