Josh Allen says the Bills will be in the Super Bowl if they beat the Broncos

NEWNow you can listen to Fox News articles!

The Buffalo Bills quarterback raised eyebrows with comments at the team’s end-of-season press conference this week when he suggested his team would be in the Super Bowl if they beat the Denver Broncos.

The Bills fell short to Denver in a 33-30 overtime loss in the divisional round Jan. 17. But even if the Bills had won that game, they would have had to beat the New England Patriots in the AFC championship to reach the Super Bowl.

But Allen didn’t appear to be explaining the possibility of losing to the Patriots when he made those comments.

“I’d be lying to you if I said I felt like I had a hand in it because if I did one game, that game in Denver, we probably don’t have this press conference right now,” Allen told reporters. “Maybe we’re not making a change. Actually, we’re probably getting ready to play another game.”

That sparked criticism on social media.

“Josh Allen is the king of what if,” one user wrote on X.

One X user wrote, “The guy who never made the Super Bowl thinks he would have made the Super Bowl if he hadn’t failed to make the Super Bowl again.”

Another user wrote, “And if Tom Brady lost all those Super Bowls he wouldn’t win them. I mean the fantasy game is great and all but back in the real world Allen never showed up and took his team to a Super Bowl. Who is he.”

Allen had four turnovers in the playoff loss to the Broncos but appeared to make the game-winning play in overtime when he delivered a deep pass to wide receiver Bradin Cooks who initially looked caught. But after Cooks fumbled, the ball was fumbled by Broncos linebacker Ja’Quan McMillian, and officials ruled the team out. This call has caused controversy among fans.

Allen then cried in front of reporters at the postgame news conference that night, breaking down when he said, “I let my team down.”

The Bills fired head coach Sean McDermott days later and replaced him with Joe Brady.

Now, eight seasons later and no trip to the Super Bowl, Allen can only watch from home as the Patriots play in their 11th Super Bowl with sophomore quarterback Drake Maye.
