Laptops prices are about to skyrocket

Every PC will become more expensive in the coming months – stationary and mobile. People who were planning to build their own computer were put off by an inexpensive PC because of the price of RAM. However, anyone who was thinking of buying a premium laptop should do so sooner rather than later. There are growing signs that some major laptop makers are planning to raise prices in the near future.
Market Analysis Market Analysis reported on Friday that most of the largest laptop manufacturers are considering – if not just planning – new hikes. Lenovo, the company with the largest market share in PCS, is reported to have warned customers (by that, we mean sellers) that the current prices will expire come Jan. 1, 2026, according to a notice seen by industry sources. That means retailers should expect to see a new price hike suggested, which will eventually force consumers to fork over their desktops and laptops.

Gizmoto asked Lenovo to confirm its strategy, but the company did not respond to a request for comment before press time. All companies face the same problem. Memory prices have increased at an unending pace in the past two months due to the growing shortage of Drum (Memory random access) and more, which is used for flash storage. Major semiconductor companies, such as Samsung and Sk Hynix, are heeding the siren calls of AI data centers and dominating their industries, creating a memory of ongoing projects such as the Open-State Stargate Project. AI memory is proving to be so profitable for companies, that a major memory supplier ended its core consumer product to put all the focus on data center offerings.
HP, the second largest PC supplier by market share, is in a similar situation. Korean newspaper Chosun Ibo reported earlier this week that HP and Dell are also considering new products for the 2026 weeks. That is only increased by refucos in AI on PCs, such as Microsoft’s Copilot + COCILOT. These PCs need more RAM to facilitate AI of any kind – usually at least 16GB if not more. If you’ve been wondering why apple now provides at least 16GB on all macbook models, now you know.
Trenlentforame’s anonymous sources said Dell raised prices by around 15 to 20% as recently as mid-December. Dell’s brand includes its line of consumer and business oriented laptops and gaming products with its hardware brand. The company has not ruled out any price hikes, even if the question remains.
In an emailed statement, Dell told Gizmoto:
Like others in the industry, Dell takes action on targeted pricing, where necessary, while maintaining continuity of supply and its commitment to customer value. Our provision of our provision is enduring and unique around the world. It is designed to provide the flexibility needed when navigating macroeconomic, regulatory, and commercial dynamics.
Representatives from Lenovo and HP did not respond to a request for comment. We’ll update this piece if we hear more.
This trend of price hikes will definitely hurt the smaller brands. OneXPlayer, the maker of boutique gaming and PCs, has told customers to suspend any new orders for its larger, more expensive Apex Gaming Handheld. It said “current stock is fully allocated” to pre-sale customers. Now we have to “confirm the new prices with our memory and SSD vendors.” You can guess that if that PC is already expensive, it will be more expensive going forward.
