Is it a gassy whale? A top secret port? Godzilla waking up in the flooded waters of Hermosa Beach?

Residents have been alarmed by the bubble of bubbles coming out of the sea in the sea of ​​Hermosa Beach this week, prompting several beaches to easily dissolve under the surface and cause the water to break.

Videos of Bubbles, seen between 33rd Street and Longfellow Avenue, have gone viral on social media, with commenters offering a variety of wild and wild opinions. Neighbors were standing on the street in the rain, looking at the sea, wondering what was causing it.

The answer to Bubbles’ mystery turned out to be far from interesting or surprising.

The biggest clue to the mystery came on Tuesday, when a boat was found in the water, floating next to bubbles that raised tantalizing questions.

“It’s the same color as yesterday,” Mark Zurances said in a video posted to Facebook, showing the boat in the water and a circle of white bubbles on its side.

The video generated many comments but few responses.

“New Submarine Exploration?” Another person wonders.

“My guess would be a gas leak,” another mused.

Some wondered if it could be a bait ball, where small fish gather together in a small circular shape in the water, but one resident knows that there are no victims of the sea flying above, looking for a quick lunch.

One resident noted that Northrop Grumman had just been uncovered after the land had been excluded. Maybe a mantar ray submarine was tested in their backyard?

One who responded to the video with their idea: a collection of emojis analien. Another asked jokingly, a gassy whale?

“I was like, I had to go there and see it,” said Ziralies, who decided to take the surfboards and post the answers.

On the way out, he ran into two strikers in the sand who said they didn’t know what was there, but they said the bubbles looked firm as if they were created by a Jacuzzi.

In a video posted on Facebook, the Zurances can be seen wading into the water until they reach the boat near the bubbles, asking what’s going on. The occupants of the boats were contractors working on the underwater fiber cable. The mystery is solved.

Rick Devinney, with Drake Traffic Control Services, a contractor working on the site, told of the times when the transpacific fiber optic cable runs under the Pacific Ocean from California to Asia.

“They blow air to make sure the canal is clear,” Devenney said. “They made sure it was all clear to add more cable.”

Crews on the road have been working this week blowing air through the line, creating bubbles that have been showing in the water on the cable, he said.

The work, he said, should be done on Friday.

The answer, Zuratures said, was not as good as some of the online speculation.

“It was just nice to see everyone in the same boat, thinking,” she said. “Someone had to get to the bottom of it.”
