Making Funny ‘Fallout 4’ Mods Is Better Than Making ‘Good’ Fallout 4 Mods

Gamers love to hate the output of Bethesda Studios, the company responsible Scrolls of the Elders games, and Starfield as well as It falls games from Fallout 3 it goes forward. But there’s one thing that keeps these games alive: perhaps the most customizable games out there. For better or worse, it’s the same janky-ass game engine that lets loot drop and sends NPCs running up walls for hours and allows creative types all over the world to use their own weapons, characters, quests, and full customization.

With It falls TV series driving renewed interest in games based on it, mod hosting site Nexus Mods has been holding a contest for It falls mods, with the best new mod winning its creator a trip to Las Vegas. The contest has attracted entrants throughout Bethesda’s era It falls games –Fallouts 3, The new Vegas, 4, again 76-and there are some really impressive pieces of work on display. We encourage you to download them and spend the next few weeks fiddling with your load order and adjusting records in xEdit to make them work with your other mods, just for Bethesda to release another update that breaks everything again.

If all that sounds like good clean fun, though, you can entertain yourself with one of the works of modders who have taken an, um, unusual approach to the challenge. Here are some of the funniest/weirdest/most entertaining ways to be found lurking deep within the contest list.

Let’s start with this gem, which seeks to answer the question, “What if every time you get a kill in the game, you teleport to one of the 250+ locations?” What exactly? As the mod’s creator says, “We hope you saved for later!” (This is strong advice for Bethesda games in general, it must be said.)

If your game feels a little safe, inject it with some chaos in the form of a script that randomly generates a projectile every time a gun is fired. That’s right, every time you shoot one of the guns you get in the Commonwealth—whether it’s the weird 10mm gun you get in the first Vault, one of the dangerous pipe guns that populate your inventory, or a dirty monster that somehow gets by. Fallout 4assault rifle—you never know what’s going to come out of the barrel! Will it be a large armor piercing .50 BMG bullet, a laser beam, or a rail spike? Who can tell!?

Of course, what’s good for the goose is good for the gander, so the same applies to the guns used by the shooters. Have fun there! (Also in the comic book department: The Harpoon Plunger, which replaces fired projectiles Error 76the harpoon gun went into the toilets.)

The quest mode adds several hours of Lovecraft-inspired content Fallout 3‘s Point Lookout DLC. This looks legitimately good, but it’s on this list because it takes the already terrible NPC models and gives them the Innsmouth look.

(As a side note: if you don’t know Tale of Two Wastelands, the mod adds it. Fallout 3Game data on Fall: New Vegasallowing you to complete both games with the same gameplay. This is possible because the two games use the same engine; The new VegasThe implementation is new and includes missing features fallout 3, and it plays smoothly on modern computers, many people prefer to play Fallout 3 this way. That said, while this is a technical mode Fallout 3it needs Fall: New Vegas they will run. Do you see? That was not confusing at all.)

And if we’re talking about Bethesda’s main man—a community that continues to have a complicated relationship—we’ll end with a mod that you can’t download but deserves to be mentioned, especially because it embodies the worst fears of anyone who’s ever spent time with a Bethesda game. Yes, it’s Todd! Or, more specifically, an animated cardboard cutout of Todd (who’s also a snail, somehow?) coming after them and everything they love so much. Who’s laughing now?
