New York City Mayor-Elect Zohran Mamdani attacked the horrific Hanukkah attacks in Australia as ‘a heinous act of antisemitic terror’ and vowed to “
Mamdani’s comments this weekend come in response to a mass shooting at Sydney’s Bondi Beach, which left at least 15 people dead and many injured. Australian authorities described the attack as an act of terrorism against the Jewish community.
“Another Jewish community went into mourning and loss, the holiday of light has been painfully reduced to a day of darkness,” Mamdani said in a statement. “This attack is just the latest, most horrific incident in a growing pattern of violence directed at Jewish people around the world.”

The mass shooting in Australia happened during the Hanukkah community celebration. Police said the suspects were a father and his eldest son. The father was killed at the scene, while the son was shot by the police and taken to hospital in critical condition.
