Former Rep. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., declined requests from “The View” hosts to become a Democrat on Wednesday.

“So maybe now you should be a Democrat!” Co-host Joy Behar told Greene after the Republican explained that she feels strongly about the issue of affordability.

Greene’s last day in Congress was Monday. The former lawmaker has come out and split with President Donald Trump on many issues after becoming one of the president’s best friends.

“Democrats and Republicans together have put us in nearly $40 trillion in debt. I don’t support border attacks,” he said, referring to the Democrats’ immigration policy. “People like Laken Riley were killed because our border was attacked. I don’t agree with those policies.”

Host Sunny Hostin asked if Greene would become an Independent or stay in the Republican Party.

“I haven’t said whether I’m leaving the Republican Party, but my focus is America first,” said Greene.

Hostin encouraged him, “You can make a statement here.”

Behar then asked Greene another question about spending and debt.

“Tell me if I’m wrong about this, because I’m just watching the news. I’m not an expert. I’m nothing,” said Behar. “Every time a Democratic president leaves office, we have a surplus. Then when a Republican leaves, we have a shortage.”

Host Alyssa Farah Griffin said it had been untrue since former President Bill Clinton left office, and Greene added, “That’s absolutely false.”

“Joe Biden left office and we were $33 trillion in debt,” Greene said. “Democrats control Congress under Nancy Pelosi, spend billions and trillions of dollars, and now they’ve gone up a notch. I said both sides. I said both sides. You’re the one defending the Democrat Party.”

Behar agreed and said he was before adding, “One is worse than the other, let’s put it that way.”
