Nine are facing drug-related, last-minute charges in the shooting death of an Oakland officer

A federal grand jury in Oakland indicted nine people on felony drug and conspiracy charges related to a series of drug-related burglaries at a police headquarters, according to court documents unfiled Thursday.

Federal prosecutors say that over a period of approximately four hours on December 29, 2023, a group of boarders at the waterfront center grew in Emboakadero in Oakladero in OakladE, leaving at least a hundred marijuana plants. Allen Brown, Sebron Russell and Marquise Cooper who allegedly planned the armed burglies, hired Janiero Booth, Jowaun Jones, Shawn McGee and Shawn McGUIA and Salvador Munguia to help them throughout the morning, according to the lawsuit.

Brown, Russell, Cooper, Booth, Jones, McGe and Mcunguia are charged with distribution, and attempted to distribute with intent to distribute more than 100 marijuana plants, the claims say.

Brown is charged with discharging a firearm in connection with a drug trafficking crime. Russell is charged with assault with a firearm. Jasmine Kumar, the alleged girlfriend of Manali, and her mother, Felicia Sanders, are facing charges after the fact for allegedly helping to suppress his anxiety, according to the Department of Justice.

Lawyers representing the group could not immediately be reached for comment.

Federal prosecutors say that while the group stole marijuana from the unit twice that morning, it was their third visit that turned deadly.

Shortly before 4:30 am, when the group returned to swallow the unit again, Oakland officials responded to the scene.

The suspects left in several vehicles, miraculously, and were chased away by other police officers.

Brown fired one of the cars and built an inexpensive assembly, sitting in the passenger seat, fired at least 20 shots at the LE truck, finally hitting this year, miraculously. Le died at a nearby hospital.

All nine defendants were remanded in custody and made their first appearance in U.S. District Court in San Francisco on Thursday. They are set to return for a bail hearing on Monday.

Alamera County prosecutors have charged Cooper, Brown, Russell and Mark Sanders with murder in connection with Le’s death last year. The murder charge against Cooper was dismissed after a jury ruled during the preliminary hearing that prosecutors did not have enough evidence to support the case.

Brown, Russell and Sanders pleaded guilty, according to court documents.

If convicted of all counts, the seven men face decades in prison. Kumar and Sanders face up to 15 years in prison, according to the Justice Department.
