Protesters clash with Dublin police and burn van after attack on little girl – national

Anti-abafrists protesters set fire to a police car and attacked officers near asylum seekers in Dublin on Tuesday, the Justice Minister said, after Mkhamunye was arrested for attacking a young girl nearby.
The incident comes two years after anti-immigrant protesters sparked mass protests in central Dublin after three children were stabbed.
The Irish Times, which published a video of a burning police van, reported that more than 500 people were involved in a protest outside a building in West Dublin on Tuesday evening.

Videos posted to X by Irish media outlets and anti-immigrant activists show people holding Irish flags and placards with anti-immigration slogans. Protesters threw glass bottles and fireworks at police.
“The making of a criminal weapon by people who wish to sow discord in our society is unacceptable,” Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan said in a statement. “This is unacceptable and will lead to a strong response.”

Police on Tuesday said a man in his 20s was removed from the area following a serious assault on a woman.
The leader of the main opposition party Sinn Fein in Parliament on Tuesday spoke about reports that the man had a deportation order issued against him in March this year.

O’Callaghan said he had asked the most senior official in his department for a detailed account of the handling of the asylum claim in this case. Police did not respond to a request for comment.
While Ireland is almost unique in Europe in having no long-distance members of Parliament, recent years have brought a sharp rise in the number of out-of-town parties being sought after by immigrant groups.
