Putin says that Russia will take Donbas by force if it is not kept by Ukraine

President Vladimir Putin said in an interview published on Thursday that Russia will take full control of the Donbas region of Ukraine by force unless Ukrainian forces withdraw – something Kyiv has flatly rejected.
Putin sent tens of thousands of troops to Ukraine in February 2022 after eight years of fighting between Russian-backed Russians and Ukrainian forces in the Donbas, which consists of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
“Either we liberate these areas by force of arms, or Ukrainian forces leave these areas,” Putin told Indians today before visiting Delhi on Russian Television.

In 2022, Russia announced that the Ukrainian regions of Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhia were now part of Russia after being annexed by the West and Kyiv. Many countries recognize the region – and Crimea – as part of Ukraine.
Putin met with delegates Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in the Kremlin on Tuesday, saying that Russia has accepted some proposals from Ukraine, and that talks should continue. Witkoff and Kushner are expected to meet Thursday in Miami with Ukrainian National Security Chief Crustem Umerov.
Russia’s Gota News Agency cited Putin as saying that his meeting with Witkoff and Kushner had been “very useful” and that it was based on the letter Governor Donald Trump spoke with him in August.
There was food that Moscow said is ready to discuss, while others “we cannot allow,” said Putin, adding “hard work.”
Trump said that Witkoff and Kushner came from their Marathon chest hoping that Putin wanted to find an end to the war. European leaders, leaving aside officials talking about officials, accused Putin of wanting Trump’s peace.
Putin refused to enter the details of whether Russia would agree to see it, whether it would simply interfere with the regime’s active “peace effort,” according to Russia’s TASS Agency.
Ukraine is looking for a backup from its European neighbors during the ongoing talks of the US – ongoing peace talks with Russia, especially worrying when the current proposal is favored by Moscow’s position.
