The Dutch royal family has traditionally maintained close ties to the armed forces.

William of Orange was the commander of the army. King Willem-Alexander completed his military service in the Royal Netherlands Navy, then served in the Royal Netherlands Army and the Royal Netherlands Air Force.

Princess of Orange is now a company and enrolled in the Defense College program.

The end of the queen’s military training comes as a result of instability among European allies as they face the unpredictable leadership of US President Donald Trump, including his threat to take over Greenland and the war in Ukraine.

Trump has urged European countries to significantly increase their domestic defense spending and reduce what he sees as an over-reliance on US forces in NATO.
