Real Betis close to the top 4, Valencia wins the derby

Matchday 24 of the 2025-26 La Liga season saw plenty of drama in the nine matches played on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Here’s how the action has played out so far ahead of Monday’s Catalan derby between Girona and Barcelona.
Osasuna held firm to deny Elche a return to winning ways
Elche 0-0 Osasuna
Elche extended their unbeaten run to eight games after being held goalless by Osasuna. The home team was playing hard, but despite having many chances to score, they failed to do so.
Espanyol and Celta play an exciting game at the RCDE stadium with four goals

Espanyol 2-2 Celta Vigo
Espanyol and Celta Vigo cannot be separated at the top of La Liga, and the same was said about Saturday’s game at the RCDE Stadium. Ferran Jutgla opened the scoring in the first half, but after the home side took the lead through goals from Kike Garcia and Tyrhys Dolan, Borja Iglesias struck in the third minute of stoppage time to make sure something was lost.
Villarreal’s top hopes were frustrated by Getafe

Getafe 2-1 Villarreal
Getafe secured a stunning victory over Villarreal at the Coliseum. Mauro Arambarri opened the scoring with a penalty, and Martin Satriano doubled the lead after the break. Georges Mikautadze got a late goal, but the Yellow Submarine failed to find another, meaning their third loss out of five.
Three red cards were shown as Sevilla held Alaves

Sevilla 1-1 Alaves
There was a clash at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan as Sevilla and Alaves played out a draw. Juanlu Sanchez was sent off after just 16 minutes, but despite this, the home side took the lead before the break courtesy of Djibril Sow. Toni Martinez equalized on the hour mark, but despite the visitors pushing for a winner, they couldn’t find one.
Athletic Club come from behind to beat Real Oviedo

Real Oviedo 1-2 Athletic Club
Athletic Club won their second La Liga in a row following victory over Asturias. Ilyas Chaira had given Real Oviedo the lead at the break, but second-half strikes from Mikel Jauregizar and Oihan Sancet ensured the points returned to Bilbao.
Valencia secured the bragging rights as Levante were eliminated

Levante 0-2 Valencia
Valencia finished off double city rivals Levante with a hard-fought win at Ciudad de Valencia. Largie Ramazani broke the deadlock on 64 minutes, while Umar Sadiq sealed a vital win for Los Che late on. To make matters worse for the home side, they sent on Kevin Arriaga in stoppage time.
Real Betis continue their Champions League push at Son Moix

Mallorca 1-2 Real Betis
Real Betis closed the gap on Villarreal and Atletico Madrid, who lost to Rayo Vallecano on Sunday, with a win over Mallorca. Ez Abde and Cedric Bakambu gave Los Verdiblancos a two-goal lead at the break, and despite a response from the in-form Vedat Muriqi, they held on for the win.
