Rob Reiner’s final weekend shows: Conan O’Brien’s party, the Obamas and unimaginable violence.
It was supposed to be a weekend to celebrate Rob and Michele Reiner.
They attended Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party on Saturday and plan to meet Barack and Michelle Obama on Sunday night.
But that reunion with the 44th president and former first lady never happened.
The Reiners were found dead in their home in Brentwood on Sunday afternoon, and their son Nick was arrested on suspicion of murder.
More details are emerging about that epic weekend, but a full account of what happened has yet to be revealed.
Nick Reiner had a long history of substance abuse problems and gave many interviews about his recovery efforts and homelessness. He said he was in recovery at the age of 22, when he and his father produced a film based on his struggles, but at the age of 24 he said in a podcast interview that he was in recovery and using methamphetamine.
Reiner lived in a guest house on his parents’ property, according to family friends. The family have become very concerned about his mental health and have expressed those concerns in recent weeks.
On Saturday night, Nick and his parents were at a holiday party.
That night, the 32-year-old got into an argument with his parents at a party at O’Brien’s house, friends of the Reiners told The Times. People who were at the event noticed that Nick was doing something unusual at the event, they said.

It is unclear when the Reiners were killed. Michelle Obama revealed that she and Barack Obama planned to meet with the Reiners that Sunday evening.
“We should have seen them that night,” he told Jimmy Kimmel on his show Monday. “Rob and Michele Reiner are some of the most honorable, bravest people you could ever want to know.”
LA Police Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton said the first 911 call came in around 3:40 pm Sunday from inside the home, located in the 200 block of Chadbourne Avenue. There were no signs of forced entry, and Nick Reiner was not at the scene when police arrived, according to law enforcement sources who were not authorized to speak publicly about details of the case.
The couple had stab wounds, sources said.
The medical examiner determines the time of death for Rob and Michele Reiner, but investigators track Nick Reiner’s whereabouts in the hours after the altercation at the O’Brien party.
The Reiners’ youngest child, Romy, 28, found his parents dead in the house on Sunday afternoon, according to family friends, who did not want to be named because of the nature of the crime.

Actor Billy Crystal, Rob’s longtime friend and collaborator, was one of the first people the family reached out to after hearing of the couple’s death and visited the home on Sunday.
That night, the death in the home of a Hollywood legend was recognized worldwide.
It is not clear when the police first focused on Nick Reiner and how they were able to determine his location.
Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Gang and Narcotics Unit, along with a US Army fugitive task force, tracked down Nick in South LA on Sunday evening, according to a law enforcement source and Reiner’s booking record.
He was found near USC, about 15 kilometers from where he was stabbed, the source said.
Nick Reiner was taken into custody around 9:15 p.m. Sunday and booked with murder at 5:04 a.m. Monday, the source said.
He is being held in the LA County Jail without bail, according to LAPD and jail records.
