Sanders participated in a CNN town hall with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, DN.Y., discussing the ongoing government shutdown. One of the questions during the event came from American University student Rohan Naval, a Republican, who asked Sanders how he thinks about closing Shumuwe.
“Well, I think it shows more in the leadership of Mike John Johnson than the leadership of the President of the President,” Sanders replied. “This is leadership that says it’s okay to give a … Hey, how do you feel? How do you feel? You’re telling me it’s a good feeling to look after the richest people in a country of working people?”

“I think Chuck Schumer has voted to continue 13 resolutions over the last four years, and he has the opportunity to vote for one more, but he responded.
“I think … Look, like I said, there are 53 republicans in the Senate, right?” Sanders commented. “They need 60. What does that mean? It means you have to talk on the other side. Mike tune doesn’t talk. This is the problem.”

Republicans blamed Shumeri for the shutdown, which they say is intended to appeal to the progressive wing of the Democratic Party. Last week, he came under fire from the White House for reportedly getting “better” for Democrats during the shutdown.
“Every day gets better for us,” Shumer reportedly told Punchbowl News. “It’s because we thought about this in advance, and we knew that health care was going to be the focus on September 30, and we were preparing for it … Their whole idea was off, and we were shipping in a day or two.”
