Gov. Josh Shapiro, D-Pa., in an interview with CBS’s Norah O’Donnell on Sunday said that former Vice President Kamala Harris’s team was disrespectful to his wife, in addition to other questions that he felt offended him.
“You say in the letter that you were advised, well, your wife is going to have to get new clothes. She’s going to have to pay for hair and makeup. You’re going to have to go into the vice-president, all these things. And it seems like it’s turned you off,” O’Donnell said.
O’Donnell spoke with Shapiro about his new book, “Where We Keep the Light,” which comes out Tuesday. In the book, Shapiro describes the testing process he went through with Harris.
“Look, there were a few times in that process where I was asked things or, in the case of what you just said, I thought people didn’t particularly respect my wife, that left me wondering if this is something I wanted to do,” Shapiro replied.

O’Donnell pressed Shapiro about the plan and said he wrote in a letter that he felt the vetting process was unnecessarily adversarial.
“I write both in the book about the screening process and the best way I can serve. As it is related to the screening process, I thought that some comments about my wife were wrong. And I thought asking me that I was a double agent for the Israeli government, it was offensive,” he said.
He wrote in the letter that he was asked by former Biden aide Dana Remus if he had ever been an “agent of the Israeli government” as well.
“I understand they had a duty to ask me those questions. I think it went beyond checking a box on a questionnaire,” he told O’Donnell.

O’Donnell again asked him why he thought he was being asked that question, and he said he didn’t know.
“I don’t want to stay here and impose beliefs on others. I can tell you that it came to me in an annoying way. I have dedicated my entire life as an adult to serving this country, I work for this country with different chosen skills, with different volunteer skills. I love this country. And for someone to question that, for someone to question my integrity, especially as a person who is free to me,” he said about his faith.
Shapiro said he understands that the people questioning him are just doing their job.

He also explained that when he tried to talk to Harris about withdrawing from his consideration, his staff did not allow it.
He also said that he did not know if Harris knew that he was asked these questions, especially for being the ambassador of Israel.
