A new era of news consumption was ushered in when the California Post officially launched on Monday.

The California Post will operate as a separate entity under the New York Post Media Group but will strive to operate “outspoken journalism” as its own subsidiary. The paper aims to bring accountability to the Golden State through seven-day-a-week digital and print offerings.

“We’re bringing the DNA of the New York Post and that’s journalism that’s really connected to the audience … that’s the DNA of the New York Post, which speaks clearly, and is laser-focused on the interests of that audience. That’s always what makes the New York Post successful,” California Post editor-in-chief Nick Digital told Fox News’ Nick Digital.

Papps said the California Post will look similar to the New York Post with its daily “pictorial” front page featuring the story of the day. The main difference is the audience, as the paper will be true to the Californian population.

“It’s a big audience. We have 39 million people here in this state, the fourth largest economy in the world,” said Papps, noting that homelessness, lack of affordability and crime are critical issues for California residents.

Similar to the New York Post, Papps said the Western paper will have “the best” of hard news, as well as sports and entertainment. There’s Page Six Hollywood, which offers celebrity news and gossip while also covering Hollywood business, and the back cover will focus on California’s most famous stadium.

“We don’t write for other journalists, we don’t write to get a Pulitzer Prize, we write to serve the people of California, and we do everything we can to celebrate life here in California, shine a light in those dark rooms that have no light and have fun along the way,” said Papps.

“So, as we integrate our digital and print offerings, we’re really focused on making sure we’re the place Californians go for everything they want to know,” Papps continued. “That we are the place that everyone wants to go to first as they wake up in the morning, check out during the day and see us before they go to bed.”

“California is obviously a big state, so we’re going to pick issues that affect our readers but we also play an important role in leading the debate here in California and Los Angeles. You know, setting the agenda. What are the important issues? What do we think about the policies that the powerful are putting out? Hold them accountable and make sure that everything we do is for our audience,” said Papps.
