Michael Carroll’s son made it hard – a cold jolt ran through him – when his shovel attacked what looked like rags and bones in the basement on Halloween Eve 2018.
Chris Carroll and his brother, Mike Carroll Jr., have been mining for months for the family in Lake Grove, Long Island, New York. The patriarch, who started digging, had just suffered a stroke and needed help just going down the stairs.
“Dad, I think I found something,” Chris said.

She and her child had no idea that they were uncovering the remains of their great grandfather, George Carroll, who had disappeared half a century earlier.
The months-long excavation is the title of the new crime regime with true crime on December 16 If you investigate (ID), entitled “Secrets We Bury.”

Patricia E. GillesSpie, a director based in YORK, came across a story about Carroll’s search in a local newspaper. Impressed, he began to search for her and soon found her.

“I met Mike a few days after he revealed the mystery of his father,” Gillespie told Fox News Digital. “We hit it so hard that at the end of the meeting, he took me to the basement, where there was a big hole.'”
“Over the years, a lot of people thought Mike and his sister Jean Kennedy were crazy,” Gillespie said. “They were just told, ‘Your father left. Why would you accept this?'”
“Solving the mystery itself was the jumping-off point for the mysteries and thousands of secrets,” GillesSpie added.

George, a US Army Pown War Veteriaman, disappeared in 1963. Her son, Carroll, was 8 months old at the time. Bease Carroll Carroll’s mother, Dorothy Carroll, always said she didn’t get high with cigarettes and “never went back.” Rumor has it that he met a woman in Korea and started a new life with her. The document noted George was never reported missing.

“He came back from this fight with a bunch of kids at home,” Gillespie said of George. “They didn’t talk about what happened in the war. You didn’t share with those generations. It was a different time. It must have been hard to come away from the Korean War with a lot of kids. [But] His children loved him. For the younger ones, they loved the idea of him. “

For decades, children of old have wondered what became of their father. Desperate, Kennedy – an irrational believer in the supernatural – consulted a psychic in 2010. He convinced his brother to join him, even though he was hesitant.

The psychic told them that George was killed and buried in the basement. Carroll bought the property from his mother in 1993. Dorothy died of cancer in 1998.
“Jean says her ‘long call’ is to ‘her Mom,'” says Gillespie of an interesting Kennedy. “Like all of us, when you lose someone you care about, there are all these conversations you wish you had or wish you had.”

In theory, George’s friend also told Carroll that his side of the family believed George was murdered.

“It opened the door to something deeper, said Gillespie. “You’re looking for a man, you find him in these surprising situations – the end, right? I think most stories end there. And it was just the beginning of getting poets, a police report or a court.”

When the police initially received the call from Carroll, they laughed it off, believing it to be a prank. But Carroll was persistent, and finally stopped at home. To their dismay, there were bones several meters below the floor. They were later confirmed to be George.
Police have classified George’s death as a homicide. His skull had been hit by blunt-force trauma.

Carroll believes the person most likely responsible for his father’s disappearance is his stepfather, Richard Derress. He was a low-class young man whom George had hired to help with construction work and who later stayed at home.

As soon as Dorothy told her children that their father had left them, she married Darrress. They shared a son, “Richie,” before divorcing in 1983. According to the documents, the Carroll siblings say their biological father physically abused and sexually assaulted the girls.
“Richie [who appeared in the film] he was put in such a difficult situation,” Gillespie said.

“It doesn’t matter who your father is, you love your father. You don’t want to believe hard about your father. I think most of the boys grew up, but for the most part it was their biological father, but I said, ‘No, not my name.’

“Richie didn’t say,” Gillespie continued. “Richie believed in His children. He said to us, ‘My children are my real family. Therefore, I believe.’ I think he exuded a lot of energy and a lot of care. … He put our feelings on them. At the same time, as they tear through the cheap stuff, they continue to find the deep stuff, do they keep thinking about it? ‘”

Darress died in June 2018 at age 77, a funeral home in Laredo, Texas, previously told Fox News Digital. Before he died, he lived in Mexico, across the border from Laredo.

For years, her siblings tried to doubt their mother, hoping that she had some pointers that would lead to education. But Dorothy could clearly see that George was not a “nice person.” While there is speculation that she may have played a role in George’s estrangement after their abusive marriage, her children continue to defend her.
“When that first press release came out after he found out about his dad, a lot of it pointed the finger firmly at him,” Gillespie said. “But the thing that stood out to me the most about their relationship with their mother is how they all love her. They all worship her.”

“There are some really complicated things going on in the family,” she said. “There are unanswered questions that were not answered, frankly, will remain unanswered forever, because most of the people died by the time George found their mother.”

On Oct. 25, 2019, George was laid to rest with military honors at National Island Cemetery. Police say they may not yet determine how he died.
