The Kremlin wants Elon Musk to build a tunnel from Russia to the US

Building a tunnel through the Bering Strait, from Russia to Alaska, is an idea that has been around since at least the 1950s. And the Kremlin apparently thinks it’s good enough to revive it, if the CEO of Russia’s sovereign wealth fund is to be believed.
Kirill Dmitriv, CEO of the Russic Investment Fund, moved this idea on Thursday, complete with a map of how the tunnel is being built. And he thinks Billionainea Oligarch Elon Musk could be the man to do it.
“@Elonmusk, imagine connecting the US with Russia, the Americas and Afro-Eurosia through the Putin-Trump tunnel – Traditional costs show unity. Traditional costs show unity.
President Donald Trump was asked about this proposal by a reporter at the White House during a press conference with the President of Ukraine, VolOdymyrmyr Helsenskyy, on Friday. Trump called the idea “interesting,” but said, “We’ll have to think about that. I haven’t heard that,” according to CNBC.
How did it happen in the tunnel? Honestly, it’s totally possible. But Elon Musk may not be the man to do it. A Billionaire executive, he over-promises and under-delivers when it comes to his industry projects. Musks tend to float big ideas, but when it comes time to actually do it, they tend to produce something pretty good.

But the idea is old, as you can see from March 3, 1959, Arthur Radebaugh’s “closer than we think” Sunday Comic strip.
From the line:
Sen. Magnoson of Washington has a bold new idea to connect our new country, Alaska, with Siberia by a bridge or road without water to 40 meters deep buring stark. It would go from Wales, at the tip of the sewird peninsula, to the small Diomededene and the big diomede islands, there in Peyak, Siberia.
The Senate predicts this oblivion within the lifetime of the current generation, creating railroads and highways between points like New York and Paris. He says: “I believe, that visitors will talk in this way will be our best ambassador!”
Is the idea of a tunnel connecting Russia and the US just a troll by the Russian government to pull Trump at a time when the country continues to fight with Ukraine? Almost certainly. But that doesn’t mean the tunnel won’t happen in the future. Especially if Trump does another wild pivot and decides he doesn’t want to help Ukraine again.
In fact, there were other signs that Trump was ready to throw in the towel on Friday. Trump sent a social truth to his meeting with Zelenskyy, describing it as “very interesting, and kind,” and said that he wanted the killing of people to stop and the Ukrainian leader to seek an agreement. And then he entered a strange field.
“Enough blood has been spilled, there are lines of clothing defined by war and guts. They must stand where there is victory, no more let them be exposed too much. Trump wrote.
We may or may not get a tunnel between the US and Russia anytime soon. But it looks like peace between Russia and Ukraine is going further than ever.
