NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell was excited about the league possibly investigating and targeting New York Giants owner Steve Tisch for his correspondence with Jeffrey Epstein.

Goodell said Monday in a pre-Super Bowl LX press conference with NFL media that he will let the facts play out before the league starts anything about Tisch and Epstein.

“Absolutely, we’re going to look at all the facts,” Goodell said. “We’re going to look at the whole context of that. We’re going to try to understand that and we’re going to look at how that fits under the policy. I think we’re taking it one step at a time. Let’s get the facts first.”

Goodell was asked to clarify whether the league is opening an investigation into the letters and whether the league is concerned about other NFL owners who may be connected to Epstein in some way.

“I don’t even know the status of all the ones that have been released,” he said. “I know that 3 million documents came out last week. So, listen, we’re going to continue to follow any facts that come out and we’re going to determine whether or not we’re going to open an investigation based on those facts.”

The commissioner was then asked if he was concerned about the Epstein scandal affecting the league.

“Of course, but that’s why we have a principle of human behavior and that’s why we will look at the facts,” he said.

The NFL released a statement hours before Goodell spoke to the media, saying “The league is aware of the reports and Steve’s response. Our office will look into the matter to determine the facts.”

The emails were released last week as part of the Justice Department’s disposal of more than 3 million documents related to the investigation of a human trafficking and child sex case.

Some emails exchanged between Epstein and Tisch appear to show the two women talking.

One wire from April 2023 showed Tisch asking Epstein if the unnamed woman was “a professional or a layperson.” Epstein said his team reached out to the woman. He later added that he wanted to go to the match with Tisch but was “scared by the age difference.”

Another exchange, from June 2013, showed Tisch and Epstein planning a possible meeting in New York.

The Tisch family owns about 45% of the Giants. He took control of the club in 2005 after his father bought a majority stake in the club in 1991.

Epstein was found dead in a Manhattan jail cell Aug. 10, 2019. It was later determined that he had committed suicide. He was sentenced to 45 years in prison for crimes related to child sex trafficking.

Tisch released a statement about the Giants on Friday as the emails came out.

“We had a short association where we exchanged emails about older women, and in addition, we discussed movies, philanthropy and investments. I did not accept him in any of his invitations and I did not go to his island. As we all know now, he was a bad person and someone I regret very much for associating with,” said Tisch.
