The Office of the Acting President has Never Felt Stronger

President Donald Trump has been posting on Truth Social non-stop on Tuesday morning before his flight to Davos, Switzerland, for the World Economic Forum. He shared AI-generated images about the Greenland conquest, called for unnamed Biden-era officials to be prosecuted for unspecified crimes, and tried to tell the Department of Homeland Security how best to deploy to win the propaganda war in Minnesota. He even shared the secret Signal conversations he had with European leaders.
Everything Trump posts is a fascist threat that should be taken seriously. But sitting here on Jan. 20, 2026, a year since he was inaugurated for a second term, Trump’s continued deployment has never made him look down. Amidst the chaos of his online presence, the desperation that emerges from each tweet is perhaps reason to hope that ordinary Americans will prevail in the fight against Trump.
Not a strong man
“All the problems we have with criminals in our country are caused by Joe Biden who is sleeping and the Radical Left Thugs around Sinqumo. [sic] The Desk in the Oval Office – And, of course, Illegal Use of the Automatic Pen!!! They should be in jail!” Trump wrote on his social network Truth Social.
It’s sad. Whiny. Weak.
First, it’s called the Resolute Desk, not the “Resolution Desk.” But if we put aside the president’s ignorance of basic facts, this is the talk of a growing man. Go back and think about how things were in the pre-Trump era. Imagine any other president in American history complaining about a former president like this—a year after he took office, no less. Then think about what Trump is asking for. Is it clear? Do you know yet?
Trump has tried to turn President Biden’s use of the auto-pen into some kind of scandal for a very long time now. He insists that the use of an autopen, a tool used by many presidents (including Trump) to affix signatures to various documents, invalidates all signatures. However, take a close look at the post. Trump never specifies who should go to jail. He never reveals the alleged crimes. He is just shouting in the space known as Public Truth. You are sad. A dangerous man, for sure, but each new post seems like an admission of inadequacy.
ICE propaganda
Or take another post Trump posted on Tuesday about the media strategy currently being used by DHS and ICE to spew propaganda involving the agency’s operations in Minnesota. Trump has sent thousands of undercover police officers into the state to terrorize immigrant communities, and wants DHS to “start talking about killers and other criminals who kidnap themselves.” DHS often sends out tweets and press statements doing just that, although they often lie about the circumstances of the people they follow.
Trump insisted in his post that the pushback Minnesotans are showing is natural and comes from paid revolutionaries. “Show the Numbers, Names, and Faces of the violent criminals, and show them NOW. People will start supporting ICE Patriots, instead of high paid troublemakers, anarchists, and agitators! MAKE AMERICA AGAIN,” Trump wrote.
The president is constantly trying to steer the media’s messages in this way, whether it’s from foreign countries or anything else that might displease him during late-night comedy shows or Fox News circlejerks. But you know you’re losing in a place like Minnesota right now. He admits in that post that people don’t support “ICE fanatics” and instead support “warriors” and anarchists. His argument is that by changing the messages, people will come to see the right point of view.
But such pressure seems highly unlikely to succeed. Trump lives and dies by media coverage. And social media has provided a unique window for people to see what’s happening in Minnesota more clearly. Anyone who is not white is always harassed on the street; secret police arrested citizens while denying access to lawyers, and an ICE agent literally shot an unarmed woman in the face. Renee Good’s death will be one of many if Trump’s thugs continue to intensify their campaign of terror.
People can see with their own eyes that the people fighting in Minnesota are not outside influencers. Is some shady cabal sending paid protesters in their bathing suits to give ICE agents low self-esteem? Because if you look at the pictures from the state, these are Minnesotans. Who else would come out in the cold to film undercover cops while wearing their uniforms?
DHS says its Border Patrol and ICE agents are the real victims in all of this. This organization thinks that anyone who dares to speak out against their neighbors for captivity is a corrupt person.
Attorney Michael McCaul told ABC’s This Week on Sunday that they suffered “8,000 verbal attacks.” DHS did not respond to emailed questions Sunday about how it tracks “verbal assaults” and whether that’s a new metric.
It’s just sad.
Greenland and the end of NATO
Trump has been tweeting about Greenland, the story of the day that rattled markets and put European leaders in the uncomfortable position of considering a shooting war with their longtime ally. Trump wants to get Greenland, by purchase or invasion, and has made it a top priority of his recently. European countries have sent troops to the country to protect it.
The president posted an AI-generated photo Tuesday morning of himself, Vice President JD Vance, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio all posing awkwardly in Greenland. Trump holds an American flag, which is planted in the country, next to a sign that reads “Greenland, US territory, est. 2026.”

He also shared an edited photo showing him in the Oval Office of the White House, sitting with European leaders and a map of the western hemisphere showing an image of the American flag including Canada, Greenland, and Venezuela. The first image, found on Wikipedia, shows that the poster board in the Oval Office originally showed a map of Ukraine.
70 percent of Americans oppose the use of government funds to buy Greenland, and 86 percent oppose taking Greenland by force, according to a recent CBS News poll. Every post he makes about Greenland doesn’t sound like it comes from a place of strength.
Trump shared private Signal messages with French President Emmanuel Macron on Truth Social Monday night, including one in which Macron said he didn’t understand what he was trying to accomplish in Greenland. Again this is not the move of a confident leader. Sharing your private messages is something a beefy kid would do, not the leader of the richest country on Earth.
Trump’s regime is in shambles
The threat of Trumpism is real. News broke Tuesday that federal prosecutors have issued subpoenas to at least five Democratic leaders in Minnesota who have been speaking ill of the president, according to the New York Times, including Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey. It is the kind of historical escalation that must be taken seriously as it sounds like a prelude to civil war. But Trump knows he has lost any popular support. He believes he can change that with his writing and setting the record straight on TV.
Trump appeared in the White House briefing room on Tuesday afternoon, another example of his depression. He rambled on for over an hour (it’s still happening as I write this) on countless topics, including prices, Somalia, and how his mom said he could be a professional baseball player. Seriously.
“I probably have bad people in public relations,” Trump insisted. “But we don’t get it.”
No one knows what the future holds for the United States. But whatever happens, Trump knows he has no support. And it kills him. Whatever is getting you down right now about the state of the world, you can appreciate that little bit of information. The fascists are on the back foot. And people can still win.
