Maybe I’m cheating a little by recommending our favorite Gaptop laptop for this guide, but the Zefyrus G14 is just that. It’s affordable, powerful enough for today’s games and so well designed that it’s easy to forget it’s a gaming laptop. Last year’s update added a refined aluminum case, a beautiful OLED screen and a weight reduction of 3.3 kilograms. Acer excels at making affordable-yet-powerful gaming notebooks, and the Nitro v 15 is a great example of that. For around $750, you can snag it with AMD’s 5 75335HS Chip, 16GB of RAM and an RTX 4050 GPU. That’s more than enough power to play most games on its 1080p 144hz screen. It’s a good system if you’re not going to play demanding games, but it may need a little GPU power to get some classy video work or to run heavy applications. This is one of the best laptop notebooks out there right now, although you shouldn’t expect the premium build quality you’ll find in notebooks over $1,000.

If you’re looking for a great 16-inch gaming notebook, but aren’t willing to pull the strings of the Razer Blade 16, consider the new Aurora 16. It starts at $1,150 with an Intel Core 7 240h Chip, an Nvidia RTX 4050, a 1TB SSD and 16GB of RAM – more than enough power to make that shine on a 16-inch. Overall, I like the build quality and reliability of the alicion, and it’s also nice to see a company targeting the budget crowd. Personally, I would spend more on the $1,300 configuration with a more powerful RTX 5060, 32GB of RAM and a faster 120HZ. And if you like the bi-i-be-ish-ish aesthetic, the aurora 16x is more powerful (and more expensive).

For the reader who knows they need as much raw power and space as possible, the alienware 18 port is hard to beat. It starts with a large 18-inch display, Intel-corel Ultra 9 275hx chip, Nvidia’s RTX 5070 TI and 32GB of RAM. But you can also configure it all the way up to RTX 5090 if you want. The Alienware 18 Area Area 51 is a beast of a machine, clocking in at around 10 pounds, but that’s to be expected given its architecture. However, if you need a new gaming laptop that is used as a desktop replacement as it is a portable system, this one fits the bill. There is always a 16-inch variant if you want the same amount of power, but with a lower frame than the 7.5-port.

Are gaming laptops good for school?

As we said, gaming laptops are very useful if you are doing any work that is required. Their biggest promise is powerful graphics performance, which isn’t just limited to PC gaming. Video editing and 3D rendering programs can also tap into their GPUS to handle demanding tasks. While you can find great GPUS on some productivity machines, like Dell’s XPS 15, you can sometimes find better deals on gaming laptops. If you’re looking for something lighter, there are plenty of 14-inch options these days. And if you don’t have LED lights and other gamer-centric bling, keep an eye on the top models that distribute the most important things like a webcam (or make sure you know how to change those lights).

Do gaming laptops last longer than regular laptops?

Not really – it depends on how you define “long-term retention.” In terms of raw performance, gaming laptops tend to pack more powerful components than standard laptops, which means they can last longer when it comes to running demanding software or modern games.
