Pointer, bad Popular AI coding startup, launched a new feature that lets people design the look and feel of Web applications with AI. The tool, a visual editor, is essentially a coded vibes product for designers, giving them access to the same beautifully designed controls they expect from professional design software. But in addition to making changes manually, the tool allows them to request edits from Cursor’s AI agent using natural language.
Cursor is best known for its AI coding platform, but with a visual editor, it’s a startup that wants to capture other parts of the software creation process. “The core we care about, the professional developers, never change,” the head of the project, Ryo Lu, tells the wire. “But honestly, developers aren’t themselves. They work with a lot of people, and anyone who makes software should be able to find something useful in a CUSTOR.”
Cursor is one of the fastest growing AI startups of all time. Since its 2023 venut, the company says it has passed $1 billion in annual recurring revenue and counts tens of thousands of companies, including Nvidia, Salesforce, and PWC, as customers. In November, the startup closed a 7.3 billion funding round that brought its value to about $30 billion.
Indicator was the first leader in the AI code market, but now it is facing more pressure than ever from big competitors like Opelai, anthropic, and Google. Startups have historically licensed AI models to these companies, but now their competitors are investing heavily in AI products they code for themselves. Anthropic’s Claude Code, for example, is growing rapidly or Cursor, reaching $1 billion in annual revenue six months after launch. In response, the indicator has begun to develop and update its AI models.
Traditionally, building software applications required many different teams to work together across various products and tools. By integrating design skills directly into its coding environment, the indicator seeks to demonstrate that it can bring these functions together in one place.
“Previously, designers used to stay in their world of pixels and frames, and they didn’t really translate it into Code. “We kind of melded the world of design and the world of coding together in one instance with one AI agent.”
AI powered web design
In a demo at the San Francisco headquarters, Cursor Product Engineering Saint Jason Ginsberg shows how a visual editor can change the aesthetics of a web page.
The traditional custom panel on the right allows users to use fonts, add buttons, create menus, or change backgrounds. On the left, a chat interface accepts natural language requests, such as “make this red button background medicine.” The Cursor agent then applies those changes directly to the code base.
Earlier this year, the browser released its own web browser that runs directly inside its codebase. The company points out that the browser creates a better Peeceback Loop when developing products, allowing developers and designers to view requests from real users.
