The Volvo EX60 is an electric SUV with a 400-mile range and Gemini AI

The Volvo EX60 is probably Volvo’s most important car of the decade, and the specs show it.

Officially unveiled on Wednesday, the Volvo EX60 is a mid-size electric SUV, positioned between the smaller EX30 and the larger family wagon, the EX90, both of which are now available for purchase.

Volvo says the EX60 is more efficient due to its aerodynamics, as well as thermal and propulsion efficiency.

But the EX60 mimics the company’s best-selling model, the petrol-powered Volvo XC60. And while that car is electrified in the form of a plug-in hybrid, the XC60 Recharge, the Volvo EX60 is the company’s first mid-size electric SUV.

Given the intense competition in that space, Volvo has had to bring out the big guns to stay competitive, and it has done so, at least on paper. The Volvo EX60, built on Volvo’s new SPA3 EV architecture, has a range of 400 miles. It also has super fast charging, making the battery go from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 19 minutes with a 400kW charger.

You won’t mistake the EX60 for not being a Volvo, that’s for sure.

These figures are for the most powerful model, the Volvo EX60 P12 AWD, which comes with a 117kWh battery and two 670hp motors, which take the car from 0 to 60mph in 3.8 seconds.

You can also get the EX60 in a slightly weaker configuration, the P10 AWD, with a 95kWh battery and a range of up to 320 miles, while the P6 has only the rear engine and a range of up to 310 miles.

It’s worth comparing that range figure to some rivals, as Volvo claims it’s the best in terms of range. For example, Tesla’s Model Y has a range of up to 330 EPA miles, while BMW’s recently introduced iX3 is the equivalent of the EX60 with a range of up to 400 miles.

The infotainment system is powered by Nvidia, Qualcomm, and Google Gemini AI. Notice the central screen that is horizontal instead of vertical, as it is on other Volvo models.

Volvo also addressed another sore point in many cars today: Infotainment. The EX60 is based on HuginCore, Volvo’s name for the hardware/software combination of Nvidia and Qualcomm chips, and Google’s Gemini AI intelligence.

Other amenities you can find on the EX60 include a 28-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system, with Apple Music preloaded with Dolby Atmos and Spatial Audio support. The Gemini AI bit means you can have a natural conversation with your car, and the AI isn’t just for answering geography and history questions; instead, it should be able to perform various commands without you having to remember specific questions.

Volvo also claims that all this hardware power delivers a “no-lag” infotainment experience, where “screens respond quickly, maps load instantly, voice assistants understand passengers better, and everything feels smooth.” It sounds good, but we’ll believe it when we see it.

Other highlights include tons of safety technology, as is the Volvo tradition, including a boron steel reinforced safety cage. The minimalist exterior and interior design whispers “Scandinavian quality” in your ear. Looking at Volvo’s promotional images, the most important detail we noticed is the horizontal central display, which was usually vertical on previous Volvos.

The company also introduced the Volvo EX60 Cross Country, a rugged variant that shares the same specs, although it is only available in P10 AWD and P12 AWD configurations. Differences from the standard EX60 include higher ground clearance, air suspension, wheel arches, stainless steel plates, and badges reminding you that this is a CC model.

Volvo says production of the EX60 P6 and P10 models will begin in April 2026, with the P12 entering production later this year. As for pricing, the company says a “well-equipped” Volvo EX60 P10 AWD should cost around $60,000.
