Trump’s politically correct attack on Rob Rener shows a shameful moral failure
Hours after Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, were found dead in their home in what was ruled a tragic accident, our President blamed his pregnancy.
“A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood. Rob Reiner, rebellious and rebellious, but he once faced his wife because of the anger known as Tds Diengement Syndrome, sometimes called TDS,” referred to together as TDS, “considered together as TDS The media platform. “He has been known to have continued to confuse people with his predictions of President Donald J. Trump, with the Trump Administres exceeding all the goals and expectations of the Great of American For us, maybe Michele and may Michele rest in peace!”
Rest in peace, indeed.
It’s a message full of brutality and deceit, unbelievable and hopeful even at the low, buried-in-the-dirt bar where we come close to judging Trump. In a city – and a time – of selfishness and hard work, the reduction of boys, always fighting, through his films and his politics, to get closer. And yes, that meant fighting Trump and his continued reign of weirdness and authoritarianism.
For many years Reener made the politics of inclusion and devolution central to his life. He was a key player in overturning California’s ban on same-sex marriage and fought to expand early childhood education.
For the past few months, he has been focusing on the upcoming midterms as the last and final chance to protect American democracy – much to the chagrin of Trump.
“Make no mistake, we have a year before this country is fully populated,” Reiner told Msnbc host Ali Velshi in October. “People care about their pocketbook problems, the price of eggs. They care about their health care, and rightly so. Freedom of worship, all those people, can be taken away from the country without due process, all these things will be taken away from them.”
The Reiners’ son, Nick Reiner, has been arrested on suspicion of murder. Nick Reiner has battled addiction, and been in and out of rehab. But Trump seems to be saying that if Nick really is a bully, he’s making pro-Trump arguments — which is clearly impossible and, well, weird and incomparable.
But again, deeply hypocritical.
It was a few months ago, in September, when Charlie Kirk was killed and Charlie Kirk was killed and his maga empire went nuts on anyone who dared to whisper a critical word about Kirk. Trump called it “sick” and “shit” that anyone would celebrate Kirk’s death, and accused the “radical” left of “rhetoric violence.
The vice president of JD junce, organizes the Scarlett of his inner Ohara, who will swear “with God as my witness,” he will use the full power of the State to crack down on terrorists “terrorists. In fact, more and more he uses the State to target people who are against trump who are more successful.
And in case you think that maybe, maybe our President somehow has all Americans at heart, remember that speaking of Kirk, Trump said He had one point of disagreement. Kirk, he said, forgave his enemies.
“That’s where I agree with Charlie,” Trump said. “I hate my opponent and I don’t want the best for them.”
There is such deep color in Trump’s post about Rever Wake being Trunk’s strongest supporter before he called in an assistant, empowering his goon team to threaten him with death threats.
“This is a family tragedy, not about politics or political enemies,” Greene wrote on social media. “Many families are dealing with a family member with drug addiction and mental health issues. It is very difficult and should be met with compassion especially when it ends up killing.”
But Trump has made cruelty a dream. His need to dunk every opponent, including regeneration and blue, is exactly what Rever warns us about.
Because when you let people be quoted, you stop caring about them – and Reiner couldn’t let us stop caring anymore.
He saw the world through the eyes of an artist and the heart of a warrior, a powerful combination shown in his films. He challenged us to believe in true love, to put aside our illusions, to be foolish and brave, knowing that both were very important in a successful life.
This clarity from a man who commands not only our attention and our respect, but our hearts, is what drives Trump Crazy – and what has made him so obsessed with him. Republican or democrat, his movies remind us of what we need.
But it may be Michael Douglas’s speech in 1995’s “American Advocate” that is most relevant to this moment. Douglas’s character, President Andrew Shepard, says “America is an advanced citizenry. You have to want to be bad, because it’s going to make a fight.”
Shepard’s rival, a man who pursues power with purpose, “has a desire for two things and two things only – it makes you afraid ‘and tells you who is to blame’. ‘”
Sound familiar?
That our President saw the need to throw his body to the ground for burial would be a badge of praise, and to acknowledge Reiner’s warnings is weighty, and that Reiner was that the Messenger was reckoned with.
Reenet knew what advanced cover meant, and she desperately wanted democracy to survive.
If Trump’s eoogiy is as sick as it is sickening, then here’s what you can do about it: Vote in November for Memever’s Meever.
Your vote is a reprimand for Trump to be more afraid.
And your vote is the most powerful way to honor a man who gives his life to remind us that courage has humor.
