UFO Obsessives will be disappointed by a new theory that aliens may not have very advanced technology

The discovery of a mysterious interstellar object called “3i/Atlas” and its passage through our orbits has set off all sorts of speculations as to whether the big visitor could be some kind of meteor. But now one Nasa scientist has suggested that extraterrestrials might not be able to visit our corner of the galaxy because, well, their technology might be just as crummy as ours.

In a research paper entitled “The Scariest Space as an Explanation for the Fermi Paradox Robin Corbet,” University of Maryland Paradox Robin Corbet points out that any Aliens are because they warp or reach warmholes. In fact, Corbet might say, he might not have the most advanced technology that humans have:

Using the principle of “radical mundanity,” this paper examines the explanations for the lack of strong evidence of the existence of technology – Use where soft technological civilizations are found, where there are not enough technological standards to achieve that.

A more “terrible” indicator “is related to a comment from the Sci-Fi writer Arthur C. Clarke, who is said to have once posted that we are alone in the universe or we are not, and that both of these ties are equally terrifying.

Solving Fermi’s equation

Physicist Enrico Fermi is reported to have proposed the paradox that surrounded him in the 1950s, sometimes expressed as the question “Where is everybody?” At the root, Fermi wondered why, if life is supposed to be good in the vast universe, we haven’t met any other civilizations. Various explanations have emerged over the years, ranging from humanity being the only exposed, sentient life intelligent enough to ask the question, to the possibility that aliens are more advanced than us. (My personal favorite is that the most intelligent life in the universe is actually aquatic – life on earth started in the ocean, after all – so we live in a galaxy of whales who have no desire to leave their sweet homes.)

Corbet admits that we have spent decades talking about UFOs and have developed a great deal of intelligence around them, but the NASA researcher notes that no one has found anyone who did not appear to have been made on this planet. That said, anti-scientist Avi Loeb has had all kinds of interesting theories about why the 3i / Atlas could be such a complex piece of engineering. (Loeb also did some real science, of course, excluding others from making outrageous guesses about what was probably just a giant comet.)

Radical Mundanity is irrational

The idea of ​​radical mundanity slowly turns to occum’s razor: If we don’t see any aliens yet, it’s because they’re too much like us, maybe for the better, or maybe for the worse. The simplest explanation is the best. “The concept is very advanced, but it’s not very advanced,” Corbet told the Guardian. “It’s like having an iPhone 42 rather than an iPhone 17,”

He also suggests that even the most advanced civilization can send a lot of proes, they get nothing.

In his paper, Corbet also entertains various limitations of the theory of mundanity. Obviously, if Aliens come from above, the theory is disproved, as they will need very advanced technology to reach the earth. But even if we see a secure destaterterrestrial civilization, it might be less impressive than ours. We won’t find much of a connection, scientifically, and would have to conclude that mundanity is the rule of the Milky Way. Sorry, die obsussifers. That can be really boring.
