It’s perfect – If he ultimately continues to run for the White House in 2028, Vice President JD Vance will receive the support of Gov. Glenn Youngkin of Virginia.

“I think Vice President Vance is very much the pick,” Youngkin said in an exclusive interview with “Fox News Sunday,” as he heads into the race to succeed President Donald Trump.

Youngkin told Fox News’ Jacqui Heinrich that “as people speculate about what’s going to happen in 2028, I agree with President Trump and [Secretary of State] Marco Rubio. I think JD Vance would be a very good president. “

The response from Youngkin, who has been viewed by political pundits for the past two years as a possible candidate for the 2028 GOP presidential nomination, was the first time he has been publicly tested in the next race for the White House.

Youngkin’s “Fox News Sunday” interview came just days before he ends his term as governor of Virginia, which by law prevents governors from running for and serving consecutive terms.

Although Vance has yet to say anything publicly about whether he will launch a 2028 campaign to succeed Trump, he is considered by many to be the presidential heir apparent to eventually take over MAGA and America First.

Vance was endorsed last month by Erika Kirk at the annual conference run by Turning Point USA, a growing political and activist group.

The support of the vice president by The Turning Pointinfluential especially among young conservatives and whose political arm has built a strong grassroots campaign, it could give Vance a big boost when he launches a bid for the White House next year.

Youngkin energizes Republicans across the country in 2021, as the front-runner in the party’s business wing, ousting former Democratic Governor Terry McAuliffe to become the first GOP candidate in a dozen years to win the gubernatorial election in a state that has had Democrats for the past decade.

The governor instantly became a Republican rock star and speculation fueled a possible future White House run.

But the governor remained tight-lipped when asked about a potential presidential bid, saying several times over the past few years that he was focused only on politics in Virginia and that he intended to “eliminate power.”

Youngkin is likely to campaign with fellow Republicans in this year’s midterm elections, in which the GOP aims to hold its own House and Senate seats, and 36 states hold gubernatorial contests.

“I think the most important thing we can do, just like Vice-President Vance said recently, is stay focused on the here and now. We have to give. We have to give to the American people and Virginians. We have a big election in 2026 to maintain and increase our majority in the House and Senate,” said Youngkin as he pointed to the midterms.

And he added, “I just deeply respect the vice president’s reminder that we have to stay focused today. And if we stay focused today and deliver results, then the American people will continue to extend our license to lead.”
