WATCH HIGHLIGHTS: Copa del Rey round-up

The Copa del Rey Round of 16 started on Tuesday night in dramatic fashion, with two goals going into overtime, and no game being decided by more than one goal.
Cultural Leonesa 3-4 Athletic Club (AET): Los Leones hold on
Athletic Club wanted to make up for their poor form by fielding a strong team to face Segunda Cultural Leonesa, but found themselves with their hands full. Three times Cultural took the lead in the first half, twice through Ivan Calero and then through Ruben Sobrino from the penalty spot. Gorka Guruzeta responded twice with smart shots, then Oihan Sancet equalized from there too.
It was a chaotic night in the Copa del Rey on Tuesday, the most surprising of which was Athletic’s 4-3 win over Cultural Leonesa AET after going down to ten men.

Aitor Paredes’ red card 10 minutes into the second half put Athletic on the line, but they went into extra time. Cultural had a goal ruled out for offside before Unai Gomez put Athletic ahead from the penalty spot in the 104th minute. Los Leones held on to their first lead of the game, seeing off a late penalty appeal, to win.
Deportivo La Coruna 0-1 Atletico Madrid: Griezmann’s brilliance wins
Atletico Madrid and Deportivo La Coruna battled it out in a raucous Riazor on Tuesday night. Diego Simeone started all three of Alex Baena, Antoine Griezmann and Julian Alvarez, but it was Matteo Ruggeri who had the best effort in the first half, his shot from the left hitting the post.

In the second half, Deportivo almost scored the first goal, forcing Juan Musso to make a second save, but it was a brilliant display from Antoine Griezmann that won it. His free-kick on the hour was outstanding quality.
Real Sociedad 2-2 Osasuna (4-3 on pens): A perfect comeback for La Real
Osasuna threatened an upset at the Reale Arena, after a fine effort to sink Jon Moncayola and his own goal from Mikel Oyarzabal put them in control after just 17 minutes. Aitor Fernandez was called upon to make several saves as Real Sociedad pushed their way back into the game, but he was unable to keep out Benat Turrientes’ superb strike with 15 minutes to go, putting the comeback ahead.

In stoppage time, Igor Zubeldia saved Pellegrino Matarazzo from his first defeat as La Real manager, conceding the set. Ante Budimir’s extraordinary tenure continued; headed the bar, unable to hit his best chance in normal time. Fernandez looked like he was going to be the hero, finishing well on the left to prevent Oyarzabal’s penalty giving La Real victory.
In the penalty shootout however, it was Real Sociedad’s backup goalkeeper Unai Marrero who made the decisive decision on Alejandro Catena to send Txuri-Urdin off in a painful manner.
