Will Iran launch a cyber attack? ‘Be careful,’ Canada warns critical operators – National

The Canadian Cyber Security Center is warning Canadian critical infrastructure operators to be “alert” to the risk of cyber attacks as the war with Iran escalates.
The Canadian government shared the cyber threat news on Monday, saying that “Iran will likely use its cyber program to respond to the US and Israel’s joint attack on Iran.”
The report added that “Canadian critical infrastructure personnel and other organizations that may be targeted should remain vigilant against threats posed by cyber actors aligned with Iran’s interests.”
These threats may include “cyber attacks against critical infrastructure, cyber-enabled information operations, cyber harassment of military personnel and harassment and repression of dispersed communities and activists,” the statement continued.

Critical infrastructure usually refers to networks in sectors such as energy and utilities, finance, food chains, government, health, water and transport, among others.
It may also include communication networks such as 911 services and telephone or Internet networks.

The recent Canadian government says that “Iran remains one of the most significant cyber threats facing Canada, with government-sponsored and state-affiliated cyber actors using cyber operations to advance the country’s broader objectives.”
On February 28, Prime Minister Mark Carney and Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand issued a joint statement saying “the Canadian government is closely following the Iran-related conflict throughout the Middle East and is urging all Canadians in Iran to seek shelter. Canadians in the wider region should follow local advice and take all necessary precautions.”
The statement also said Canada “supports the United States to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon and to prevent its regime from continuing to threaten international peace and security.”
